South Africa has recently experienced an issue involving politics in sports. Caster Semenya recently won gold in the women’s 800m race at the world championships in Berlin. After she won there was an inquiry into her gender. Political groups have claimed that this is racist. Today we’ll be debating the place of politics in sport.
Samuel he’ll be supporting politicians involvement in sports. Ephraim thinks there is no place for politics in sports and politicians use sports for their own means.
We would love to hear your point of views and find out which side wins the debate.

whether we like it or not, there are sports politics. And often political issues, especially politics of identity are revealed in sports. to say that politicians should steer clear of sports is almost impossible: ’cause the political is personal!
Now, the matter of Caster to be said to be racist is founded on which grounds? Just because she is Black? that does not make sense! if there was a trend in sports to tests only OR majority of Black people, then can we SUGGEST the POSSIBILITY of foul play on race & nationality.
By the gender test have been around for a while in sports! so, this is not new. Perhaps the issue here is ‘on which grounds’ are the need for investigations based? Just by looking at her? Questioning the pace at whether a woman can improve her performance in a short space within a year or between competitions? Now, I would say, this questions are based on gender stereotyping & gender discrimination perhaps more so than race politics.

I agree with Eline, upwards and onwards!
The sound quality has improved, the show well structured.
Perhaps, for future shows – try not to read it from the script completely, have the script, use it to guide you through the show, but try to improvise, or make it sound like the words just came into your head, and not studied beforehand.
But I am subscribed and I love the content. You guys know how to choose the topics, kudos!

Faith, first i wud lyk to thank you for time nd listning. You’ve raised some good points and questions that need some answers. I think what u said is correct, it may not be racism, but why didn’t they do the test before she can participate. Now she has won and they want to do the test, didn’t they notice it before the event. If the something that they are not sure about, they must figuer a way before.
And again thanx to all people spending a lil bit of their time here.
Cheers, siphe
