Day 45 _ online media class 03

We now have 22 students involved in this Students for Humanity project. Today was our 3d online media class. We started by setting up our students for humanity mail address via google-apps. This was fun. Most of us had never used any email program before. So we had some time to send each other some nice (mostly Valentine) mails.

After that we all created a profile on Wordpress admin. We explored what a back-end (where we can add information online) and a front-end (what you can see online) of a website is. We explored how the Wordpress system works. We now know how we can create our own post.

The internet at the school is so slow! But we are just creative with the tools that we have….there are more computers then people…so we increase our speed by using two different computers to browse the web.

Flickr and youtube are unfortunately blocked…we’ll have to arrange something with the college. (the computer room that we are using is at the False Bay college in Khayelitsha. Computers are donated by Dell. Great stuff)

What about meeting some of us? Here are some profiles so far:

Ntombie, so what interesting things can you tell about last week’s classes with Fre?

Spha, I’ve got few friends how’s doctors – its a great job. They work really hard, from what I can tell – but it’s great as they can make a huge difference in peoples lives!

Sbuja, Which township did you grew up in?

Yara, what is your favourite Techie Toy? Do you use mixit? I don’t know it – tell me how it works if you know.

Mfundo, welcome! Glad you are joining the class. Are there any specific reason you joined?

Mxit is a universal chat room that does not cost too much amount of money. so it is our way to communicate less expensively and as student. It usually cost R0.02 per message. it is the way of meeting new people and having new friends, learn about their cultures and stuff. its a nice chatroom to get involved with, you should try it! you can get it from the following address:www.mxit.co.za/wap
